Teriyaki Chicken
Ingredients:
- 500 g chicken thighs or chicken breast (cut into bite-sized pieces)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons sugar (or honey)
- 2 tablespoons mirin (or substitute with vinegar + a little sugar)
- 1 tablespoon sake (optional)
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 teaspoon garlic (minced)
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch + 2 tablespoons water (optional, for thick sauce)
Instructions:
- Prepare the sauce
In a bowl, mix soy sauce, sugar, mirin, sake (if using), ginger, and garlic. - Cook the chicken
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chicken and cook until golden and fully cooked (about 6–8 minutes). - Add the sauce
Pour the sauce into the pan with the chicken. Let it simmer for 3–5 minutes. - Thicken (optional)
Add the cornstarch mixture and stir until the sauce becomes glossy and thick. - Serve
Serve hot over rice 🍚 and garnish with sesame seeds or chopped green onions.
Tips:
- Chicken thighs are juicier, but breast works if you want something lighter
- Add vegetables like broccoli or bell peppers for a complete meal
- For extra flavor, marinate the chicken for 30 minutes before cooking
