Beef & Cheese Puff Pastry Bake
(Cheesesteak-Style Puff Pastry Roll)
A crispy, golden puff pastry filled with juicy beef, sautéed peppers and onions, and melted cheese. Comfort food at its best!
Ingredients
- 500 g (1 lb) beef steak or beef strips (ribeye or sirloin works best)
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced (optional)
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional but recommended)
- 200 g (7 oz) cheese slices or shredded cheese
(cheddar, mozzarella, provolone, or a mix) - 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 190°C / 375°F.
- Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the sliced onion and bell peppers. Sauté until soft and lightly caramelized.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
- Add the beef strips and season with salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Cook until the beef is browned and juicy.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce, then remove from heat. Let the mixture cool slightly.
- Roll out the puff pastry on parchment paper.
- Place cheese evenly down the center of the pastry.
- Spoon the beef mixture over the cheese, then add a little more cheese on top if desired.
- Fold the pastry over the filling and seal the edges tightly.
- Place seam-side down on a baking tray.
- Brush the top with beaten egg.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, until golden brown and crispy.
- Let rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing.
