Flaky pastry filled with tender beef, potatoes, onion, and swede\u2014hearty, comforting, and perfect for lunch or dinner.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Pastry<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3 cups all-purpose flour<\/li>\n<li>1 teaspoon salt<\/li>\n<li>1 cup cold butter, cubed<\/li>\n<li>6\u20138 tablespoons cold water<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Filling<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 lb beef skirt steak or chuck, very finely diced<\/li>\n<li>2 medium potatoes, peeled &amp; finely diced<\/li>\n<li>1 small onion, finely chopped<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup rutabaga (swede), finely diced (optional but traditional)<\/li>\n<li>1 teaspoon salt<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 teaspoon black pepper<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 teaspoon thyme (optional)<\/li>\n<li>2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>For sealing<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 egg, beaten<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Instructions<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Make the pastry:<\/strong><br \/>\nMix flour and salt. Rub in butter until crumbly. Add cold water gradually to form a firm dough. Wrap and chill 30 minutes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Prepare the filling:<\/strong><br \/>\nIn a bowl, mix beef, potatoes, onion, rutabaga, salt, pepper, and thyme.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Assemble:<\/strong><br \/>\nPreheat oven to <strong>400\u00b0F (200\u00b0C)<\/strong>.<br \/>\nRoll dough and cut into 6\u20138 circles (about 8 inches each).<br \/>\nSpoon filling onto one half of each circle.
