Old-Fashioned Custard Pie

 Old-Fashioned Custard Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
  • 3 large eggs, beaten
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups milk (whole milk works best)
  • Ground nutmeg, for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the filling
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the beaten eggs, sugar, salt, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Add the milk
Gradually stir in the milk, mixing gently until everything is fully combined.
  4. Fill the crust
Place the unbaked pie crust into a pie dish if not already. Carefully pour the custard mixture into the crust.
  5. Add topping
Lightly sprinkle ground nutmeg over the top for that classic flavor.
  6. Bake
Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the center is set but still slightly jiggly.
  7. Cool
Remove from the oven and let the pie cool completely. The custard will continue to set as it cools.

Tips

  • For a smoother texture, warm the milk slightly before mixing (not boiling).
  • Avoid overbaking—custard should be soft, not dry.
  • Chill before serving for the best flavor and texture.
