Buttermilk Baked Potatoes Oven – 3 Ingredients
Ingredients
4 large russet potatoes
1/2 cup buttermilk
3 tablespoons butter
Optional but recommended
Salt
Black pepper
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the potatoes
Preheat your oven to 400°F or 200°C
Wash the potatoes very well and scrub off any dirt
Dry them with a clean towel
Use a fork to poke each potato several times
Step 2: Bake the potatoes
Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking tray
Bake for 45 to 60 minutes until they are soft inside
You can check by inserting a knife, it should go in easily
Step 3: Scoop the inside
Remove potatoes from the oven and let them cool slightly
Cut each potato in half lengthwise
Carefully scoop out the inside into a bowl, leaving a thin layer inside the skin so it holds its shape
Step 4: Make the filling
Add the butter to the hot potato flesh so it melts
Pour in the buttermilk
Mash everything together until smooth and creamy
Add salt and black pepper if using
Step 5: Fill and bake again
Spoon the mashed mixture back into the potato skins
Place them on a baking tray
Return to the oven and bake for 10 to 15 minutes until the tops are slightly golden
Tips for Best Results
Use russet potatoes because they are fluffy and perfect for baking
Do not overmix the potatoes or they can become sticky instead of creamy
Warm the buttermilk slightly before mixing to keep the texture smooth
For crispier skins, brush the outside of the potatoes with a little oil before the first bake
Serve immediately while hot for the best taste and texture
Optional Add-Ons if You Want to Upgrade
Add shredded cheese on top before the second bake
Mix in chopped green onions or parsley
Add a little garlic powder for extra flavor
Final Result
Soft and creamy inside with a light tangy flavor from the buttermilk and a slightly crispy top
