Cheesy Potato Gratin

Ingredients:

  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese or mozzarella
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F or 180°C.
  2. In a pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and cook until soft and fragrant.
  3. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute.
  4. Gradually pour in the milk while stirring continuously until the sauce thickens.
  5. Add the heavy cream, half of the shredded cheese, salt, pepper, and paprika. Stir until the cheese melts and the sauce becomes smooth.
  6. In a baking dish, layer the sliced potatoes evenly. Pour some of the sauce over the potatoes. Repeat the layers until everything is used.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining cheese and Parmesan on top.
  8. Bake for 45 to 60 minutes until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden and bubbly.

Tips:

  • Slice the potatoes thinly for even cooking
  • Cover with foil for the first 30 minutes, then uncover to brown the top
  • Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving
