Classic Tomato Sandwich Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 slices thick-cut white bread or sourdough bread
- 1 large ripe tomato, sliced thick
- 2–3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- Salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Optional: a pinch of garlic powder or dried oregano
Instructions
Step 1: Toast the Bread
Lightly toast the bread slices until they turn golden brown on the outside but remain soft on the inside. Do not over-toast — the bread should still be tender.
Step 2: Spread the Mayonnaise
Spread a generous layer of mayonnaise evenly on one side of each slice of bread. Make sure to go all the way to the edges for full flavor in every bite.
Step 3: Add the Tomato
Arrange thick slices of ripe tomato evenly over one slice of bread. Slightly overlap the slices for full coverage.
Step 4: Season Well
Sprinkle salt and freshly ground black pepper over the tomatoes.
If you like extra flavor, add a light pinch of garlic powder or dried oregano.
Step 5: Assemble the Sandwich
Place the second slice of bread on top, mayonnaise side down.
Step 6: Slice and Serve
Cut the sandwich in half and serve immediately while fresh and juicy.
Tips for the Best Tomato Sandwich
- Use very ripe, in-season tomatoes for the best flavor.
- Flaky sea salt works beautifully for extra texture.
- Serve with chips or a simple salad for a light lunch.
