Classic Meatballs with Brown Gravy

 Ingredients

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 lb (500g) ground beef
  • ½ lb (250g) ground pork (optional but recommended)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ½ cup finely chopped green onions
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp onion powder

For the Brown Gravy:

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt & pepper to taste

 Instructions

 Make the Meatballs:

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, green onions, garlic, salt, pepper, and onion powder.
  2. Mix until just combined (don’t overmix).
  3. Shape into medium-sized balls.

 Cook the Meatballs:

  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Brown the meatballs on all sides (about 8–10 minutes).
  • Remove and set aside.

 Make the Gravy:

  1. In the same skillet, melt butter.
  2. Stir in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes until lightly golden.
  3. Slowly whisk in beef broth.
  4. Add Worcestershire sauce.
  5. Simmer until thickened (about 3–5 minutes).

 Finish:

  • Return meatballs to the skillet.
  • Cover and simmer 10–15 minutes until fully cooked.
  • Spoon gravy over the top before serving.

Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or crusty bread.
