Apple Filling
- 4–5 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and thinly sliced
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- ½ cup raisins (optional)
- ¼ cup breadcrumbs (to absorb juices)
Pastry & Assembly
- 1 package puff pastry or homemade strudel dough
- ¼ cup melted butter
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Prepare the apple filling: In a bowl, mix sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, lemon juice, and raisins. Set aside for 10–15 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the pastry dough into a thin rectangle.
- Brush melted butter over the dough and sprinkle breadcrumbs evenly.
- Spread the apple mixture across the dough, leaving a border around the edges.
