Wisconsin Supper Club Cheese Spread
A smooth, savory cheese spread you’ll find on every supper club table in Wisconsin—simple, bold, and addictive.
Ingredients
- 8 oz (225 g) sharp cheddar cheese, finely shredded
- 4 oz (115 g) cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 2–3 tablespoons beer (lager works best) or milk for alcohol-free
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika (smoked paprika is great)
- 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard (optional but traditional)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Optional garnish: chopped chives or parsley
Instructions
- Blend the base
In a food processor, add the cheddar cheese, cream cheese, and butter. Pulse until combined. - Add flavor
Pour in the beer (or milk), Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and dry mustard. - Process until smooth
Blend until creamy and spreadable. Scrape down the sides as needed. - Season
Taste and add salt and black pepper as needed. - Chill (recommended)
Transfer to a bowl, cover, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to let flavors develop.
How to Serve
- With rye bread, crackers, or pretzels
- As a sandwich spread
- With raw veggies (celery is classic)
Tips
- For extra sharp flavor, use aged cheddar
- Want heat? Add a pinch of cayenne or a few drops of hot sauce
- Too thick? Add 1 teaspoon of beer/milk at a time
