Cheese Buns Recipe


Ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (about 500 g)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 1 egg (optional, for softer buns)

For the filling:

  • 200–250 g cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, edam, or a mix)
  • Dried oregano or black pepper (optional)

For topping:

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • Sesame seeds or black seeds (optional)

Instructions:

 Make the dough:

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt.
  2. Add the yeast and mix well.
  3. Gradually add warm milk and start kneading.
  4. Add oil (or butter) and the egg.
  5. Knead for 8–10 minutes until the dough is soft and smooth.
  6. Cover and let rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Shape the buns:

  1. Punch down the dough.
  2. Divide into medium-sized balls.
  3. Flatten each ball slightly and place cheese in the center.
  4. Seal well and shape as desired.

 Second rise:

  • Place buns on a greased baking tray.
  • Cover and let rest for 15–20 minutes.

 Bake:

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Mix egg yolk with milk and brush the tops.
  3. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
  4. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.

Tips:

  • Use low-salt cheese for best flavor.
  • Do not add too much flour; soft dough makes fluffy buns.
  • Brush with a little butter after baking for extra softness
