CHEESY SLOPPY JOE GARLIC TOAST
Tangy homemade sloppy joe piled high on crispy garlic toast and smothered with melted cheddar—comfort food perfection in about 30 minutes!
INGREDIENTS
Sloppy Joe Mixture
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 yellow onion, diced
- 1/2 green bell pepper, diced (optional but tasty)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp yellow mustard
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Garlic Toast
- 6–8 slices thick bread (Texas toast or baguette slices)
- 3 tbsp butter, softened
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp chopped parsley (optional)
Cheese Topping
- 1½–2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or mozzarella/cheddar mix)
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Make the Sloppy Joe
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned.
- Add diced onion (and bell pepper if using). Cook 3–4 minutes until softened.
- Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
- Add ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer on low for 8–10 minutes until thick and saucy. Set aside.
2. Prepare the Garlic Toast
- Mix butter, minced garlic, and parsley.
- Spread generously on one side of each bread slice.
- Toast in a pan, oven, or air fryer until golden and crispy.
3. Assemble & Melt
- Place garlic toast on a baking tray.
- Spoon sloppy joe mixture generously on top.
- Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
- Broil for 2–4 minutes until cheese is bubbly and melted.
SERVING TIPS
- Serve hot with pickles, coleslaw, or fries
- Add jalapeños if you like heat
- Swap beef for ground turkey if you want it lighter
