Classic Hamburger Hash
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 3–4 medium potatoes, peeled and diced small
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons oil or butter
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme or Italian seasoning (optional)
- ¼ cup beef broth or water (optional, for softness)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Optional Add-ins
- ½ cup diced bell peppers
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- Fried eggs (for serving )
Instructions
1. Cook the Potatoes
- Heat oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add diced potatoes.
- Cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and tender.
- If needed, add a splash of broth or water and cover for 2–3 minutes to soften.
2. Brown the Beef
- Push potatoes to one side of the skillet.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned.
- Break it up with a spoon and drain excess fat if needed.
3. Add Flavor
- Add onion and garlic.
- Cook 2–3 minutes until fragrant and soft.
- Sprinkle in paprika, salt, pepper, and herbs.
- Mix everything well.
4. Final Touch
- Cook another 3–5 minutes until everything is nicely browned and crispy in spots.
- Taste and adjust seasoning.
Serving Ideas
- Top with fried or poached eggs
- Sprinkle with cheese and let it melt
- Serve with toast or bread
- Add ketchup or hot sauce if you like
