 Classic Hamburger Hash

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 3–4 medium potatoes, peeled and diced small
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons oil or butter
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme or Italian seasoning (optional)
  • ¼ cup beef broth or water (optional, for softness)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Optional Add-ins

  • ½ cup diced bell peppers
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Fried eggs (for serving )

 Instructions

1. Cook the Potatoes

  1. Heat oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add diced potatoes.
  3. Cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and tender.
  4. If needed, add a splash of broth or water and cover for 2–3 minutes to soften.

2. Brown the Beef

  1. Push potatoes to one side of the skillet.
  2. Add ground beef and cook until browned.
  3. Break it up with a spoon and drain excess fat if needed.

3. Add Flavor

  1. Add onion and garlic.
  2. Cook 2–3 minutes until fragrant and soft.
  3. Sprinkle in paprika, salt, pepper, and herbs.
  4. Mix everything well.

4. Final Touch

  • Cook another 3–5 minutes until everything is nicely browned and crispy in spots.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning.

 Serving Ideas

  • Top with fried or poached eggs
  • Sprinkle with cheese and let it melt
  • Serve with toast or bread
  • Add ketchup or hot sauce if you like
