Cinnamon Roll Apple “Lasagna”
Ingredients
For the Apple Filling
- 4 cups peeled, diced apples (about 4 medium apples)
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
For the Cinnamon Roll Layers
- 2 cans refrigerated cinnamon rolls (with icing included)
Optional Toppings
- Extra icing from the cinnamon rolls
- Powdered sugar
- Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream (for serving )
Instructions
1. Prepare the Apple Filling
- In a medium saucepan, combine:
- Apples, sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), vanilla, and lemon juice.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring often, for 8–10 minutes until apples soften and the mixture thickens.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
2. Prepare the Cinnamon Rolls
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Open cinnamon roll cans and slice each roll horizontally into 3–4 thin layers (like lasagna sheets).
3. Assemble the “Lasagna”
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Layer as follows:
- Cinnamon roll slices (cover bottom)
- Apple filling
- Repeat layers until ingredients are used
- Finish with a layer of cinnamon rolls on top.
4. Bake
- Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly.
- If top browns too fast, loosely cover with foil.
5. Finish & Serve
- Drizzle with the cinnamon roll icing while warm.
- Let rest 10 minutes before slicing.
- Serve warm — amazing with vanilla ice cream
