Chinese Pepper Steak with Onions

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) flank steak or any tender beef, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup water or beef broth

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the sliced beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and black pepper. Mix well and let marinate for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the beef and stir-fry quickly until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the garlic and sauté for a few seconds until fragrant. Add the onion and bell pepper, stirring until slightly tender but still crisp.
  4. Return the beef to the skillet, add the water or beef broth, and cook for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef.
  5. Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.
