Hanky Panky Bites

A classic Midwest party appetizer—savory, cheesy, and ridiculously addictive. Perfect for gatherings, game day, or holidays.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb ground pork sausage (mild or hot, your choice)
  • 1 lb Velveeta cheese, cubed
  • 1 loaf cocktail rye bread (or pumpernickel rounds)
  • Optional:
    • ½ tsp garlic powder
    • ½ tsp onion powder
    • ¼ tsp black pepper
    • Pinch of crushed red pepper flakes (for heat)

Instructions

  1. Cook the meat:
In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and sausage together until fully cooked. Drain excess grease.
  2. Add cheese:
Lower the heat and add the cubed Velveeta to the skillet. Stir until completely melted and smooth.
  3. Season (optional):
Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
  4. Assemble:
Spoon about 1–2 tablespoons of the meat-and-cheese mixture onto each slice of cocktail rye bread.
  5. Bake:
Arrange on a baking sheet and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 10–12 minutes, until hot and bubbly.
  6. Serve:
Serve warm and watch them disappear fast

Make-Ahead & Freezer Tips

  • You can assemble the bites, freeze them unbaked, then bake straight from frozen at 375°F for 15–18 minutes.
  • The meat-cheese mixture can also be made ahead and refrigerated up to 2 days.
