Southern Chocolate Cobbler

Rich, fudgy, and irresistibly gooey—this classic Southern dessert bakes into a soft chocolate cake on top with a warm, silky chocolate sauce underneath. Best served hot with vanilla ice cream!

 Ingredients

Batter

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Topping

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

Hot Liquid

  • 1½ cups boiling water

 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease an 8×8 baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth. Spread batter evenly in the baking dish.
  4. In another bowl, mix granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa powder. Sprinkle evenly over the batter.
  5. Carefully pour the boiling water over the top—do not stir.
  6. Bake for 35–40 minutes, until the top looks set and cake-like.
  7. Let cool for 5–10 minutes. A rich chocolate sauce will form underneath.

 Serving Tip

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Pure Southern comfort in every spoonful
