This rich, indulgent cake is loaded with layers of chocolate in every bite. Moist chocolate cake, creamy pudding, warm fudge sauce, and fluffy whipped topping come together to create a truly irresistible “Death by Chocolate” experience.
Ingredients
Chocolate Cake
1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix (Devil’s Food or Chocolate Fudge)
Ingredients listed on the cake mix box (eggs, oil, water)
1 cup Nestlé Toll House Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
½ cup chopped dark chocolate (optional, for extra richness)
Chocolate Pudding Layer
1 package (3.9 oz) instant chocolate pudding mix
2 cups cold milk
Chocolate Fudge Sauce
1 cup hot fudge sauce
¼ cup milk
Topping
1 container (8 oz) whipped topping (Cool Whip), thawed
or 2 cups freshly whipped heavy cream
Nestlé Toll House chocolate morsels or chocolate shavings (for garnish)
Instructions
1. Bake the Cake
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Prepare the cake batter according to package directions.
3. Fold in the chocolate morsels and chopped chocolate.
4. Pour batter into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
5. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
6. Remove from oven and let cool for about 10 minutes.
2. Poke the Cake
Using the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes all over the warm cake, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
3. Prepare the Pudding
1. Whisk the instant pudding mix with cold milk until slightly thickened.
2. Pour the pudding evenly over the cake, allowing it to seep into the holes.
3. Refrigerate for 20 minutes.
4. Add the Fudge Sauce
1. Heat the hot fudge sauce with milk until smooth and pourable.
2. Pour evenly over the pudding layer.
3. Return the cake to the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
5. Top & Chill
1. Spread whipped topping evenly over the cake.
2. Garnish with chocolate morsels or chocolate shavings.
3. Chill for at least 1 hour before serving.
Tips
Best served chilled for maximum flavor.
Add caramel sauce for an extra decadent twist.
