Hanky Panky Bites
A classic Midwest party appetizer—savory, cheesy, and ridiculously addictive. Perfect for gatherings, game day, or holidays.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb ground pork sausage (mild or hot, your choice)
- 1 lb Velveeta cheese, cubed
- 1 loaf cocktail rye bread (or pumpernickel rounds)
- Optional:
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- Pinch of crushed red pepper flakes (for heat)
Instructions
- Cook the meat:
In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and sausage together until fully cooked. Drain excess grease. - Add cheese:
Lower the heat and add the cubed Velveeta to the skillet. Stir until completely melted and smooth. - Season (optional):
Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. - Assemble:
Spoon about 1–2 tablespoons of the meat-and-cheese mixture onto each slice of cocktail rye bread. - Bake:
Arrange on a baking sheet and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 10–12 minutes, until hot and bubbly. - Serve:
Serve warm and watch them disappear fast
Make-Ahead & Freezer Tips
- You can assemble the bites, freeze them unbaked, then bake straight from frozen at 375°F for 15–18 minutes.
- The meat-cheese mixture can also be made ahead and refrigerated up to 2 days.
