Slow Cooker BBQ Country-Style Ribs
Tender, juicy, and coated in a rich, sticky BBQ sauce, these slow-cooked country-style ribs are an easy budget-friendly dinner that practically melts in your mouth.
Ingredients
- 3–4 lbs country-style pork ribs
- 1 large yellow onion, sliced
- 1½ cups barbecue sauce
- 1 cup cola or root beer
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Prepare the ribs: Pat the pork ribs dry and season them all over with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika.
- Layer the slow cooker: Place the sliced onions across the bottom of the slow cooker. Arrange the seasoned ribs on top.
- Add the sauce: Pour the cola or root beer around the ribs. Spoon about 1 cup of barbecue sauce over the meat, reserving the remaining sauce for later.
- Slow cook: Cover and cook on LOW for 7–8 hours or HIGH for 4–5 hours, until the pork is very tender and reaches a safe internal temperature.
- Glaze: Carefully transfer the ribs to a baking sheet. Brush generously with the remaining barbecue sauce.
- Caramelize: For that glossy, sticky finish shown in the photo, broil the ribs for 2–4 minutes, watching closely so the sauce doesn’t burn.
- Serve: Let the ribs rest for a few minutes, then serve with the tender caramelized onions and your favorite sides.
Perfect with: mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, coleslaw, cornbread, or roasted vegetables.
