Crispy and golden on the outside, soft, tender, and juicy on the inside! This flavorful Masala Fish Fry is packed with aromatic spices and makes the perfect quick and delicious meal.
Ingredients
- 1½ pounds fish fillets, cut into medium pieces
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- ½ teaspoon turmeric
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1 tablespoon chili sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice flour
- 2 tablespoons corn flour
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1–2 tablespoons water, as needed
- Oil, for frying
- Fresh lemon wedges, for serving
Instructions
1. Prepare the Fish
Pat the fish pieces dry with paper towels. This helps the coating stick better and gives you a crispier finish.
2. Make the Masala Marinade
In a large bowl, combine ginger-garlic paste, lemon juice, chili powder, paprika, cumin, coriander, turmeric, black pepper, salt, and chili sauce.
Mix well until everything forms a flavorful spice paste.
3. Marinate
Add the fish pieces to the bowl and gently toss until every piece is evenly coated.
Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes to 1 hour so the fish can absorb all those delicious flavors.
4. Add the Crispy Coating
Add the rice flour, corn flour, and all-purpose flour to the marinated fish.
Mix gently until the fish is well coated. If the mixture seems too dry, add a tiny amount of water until the coating sticks to the fish.
5. Fry the Fish
Heat about ½ inch of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Once the oil is hot, carefully place the coated fish pieces into the pan without overcrowding it.
Fry for about 3–5 minutes per side, depending on the thickness of the fish, until golden brown and crispy on the outside and fully cooked inside.
6. Drain
Transfer the fried fish to a plate lined with paper towels to remove excess oil.
7. Serve
Serve hot with fresh lemon wedges, sliced onions, or your favorite dipping sauce.
Tips for Perfect Fish Fry
- Pat the fish completely dry before marinating.
- Don’t overcrowd the pan, or the fish won’t become properly crispy.
- Keep the oil hot but not smoking.
- Rice flour and corn flour help create that extra-crispy coating.
- Use firm fish fillets that won’t easily fall apart while frying.
Crispy, spicy, juicy, and packed with flavor—this Masala Fish Fry is seriously delicious!
