Ingredients
For the Chicken
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons butter
For the Creamy Garlic Sauce
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
1. Prepare the Chicken
Place the chicken breasts between two pieces of plastic wrap and gently pound them to an even thickness, about 1/2 inch thick.
Pat the chicken dry with paper towels and season lightly with salt and black pepper.
2. Prepare the Coating
In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
In another bowl, whisk together the egg and milk.
Dip each chicken breast into the egg mixture, making sure it is fully coated.
Then press it firmly into the Parmesan-flour mixture, coating both sides evenly.
3. Cook the Chicken
Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
Once hot, carefully add the coated chicken breasts.
Cook for about 4–6 minutes per side, depending on thickness, until golden brown and cooked through.
The chicken should reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
Transfer the chicken to a plate and loosely cover with foil.
4. Make the Creamy Garlic Sauce
Using the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30–60 seconds, just until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
Sprinkle in the flour and whisk continuously for about 1 minute.
Slowly pour in the chicken broth while whisking to prevent lumps.
Add the heavy cream and stir well.
5. Add the Parmesan
Reduce the heat to low and gradually stir in the Parmesan cheese.
Add the Italian seasoning and garlic powder.
Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Simmer gently for 2–4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce becomes smooth, creamy, and slightly thickened.
Avoid boiling the sauce after adding the Parmesan.
6. Combine Everything
Return the crispy Parmesan chicken to the skillet.
Spoon some of the creamy garlic sauce over the chicken and let it simmer gently for 1–2 minutes so the flavors come together.
Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and extra Parmesan cheese.
What to Serve With It

Tips for the Best Parmesan Chicken
- Pound the chicken evenly so it cooks at the same rate.
- Press the Parmesan coating firmly onto the chicken before frying.
- Don’t cook the chicken over extremely high heat, or the Parmesan coating can burn before the chicken is done.
- Use freshly grated Parmesan for the smoothest sauce.
- Keep the sauce at a gentle simmer rather than a rolling boil.
- For extra garlic flavor, add another clove or two of fresh minced garlic.
