Slow Cooker Steak with Onion Gravy and Baby Potatoes
This hearty slow-cooker dinner is pure comfort food! Tender beef, creamy baby potatoes, and sweet onions cook slowly in a rich, savory gravy until everything is deliciously tender. The recipe I found uses bottom round steak, baby potatoes, onion, onion soup mix, cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, dry mustard, and hot sauce.
Ingredients
- 1½ pounds bottom round steak, trimmed and cut into smaller pieces
- 2 pounds baby potatoes, washed
- 1 large yellow onion, roughly chopped
- 1 packet dry onion soup mix
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup
- ½ cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon dry mustard
- 1–2 teaspoons hot sauce, to taste
- Seasoning salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley, for garnish, optional
Instructions
- Prepare the slow cooker: Lightly spray the inside of your slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray.
- Add the potatoes: Place the baby potatoes in an even layer on the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Add the onions: Scatter the chopped yellow onion over the potatoes.
- Season the steak: Season both sides of the steak pieces with seasoning salt and black pepper.
- Add the beef: Place the seasoned steak pieces on top of the potatoes and onions.
- Make the gravy: In a medium bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, dry onion soup mix, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, dry mustard, and hot sauce until well combined.
- Pour over the steak: Spread the gravy mixture evenly over the beef, potatoes, and onions.
- Slow cook: Cover and cook on LOW for 6–8 hours, or until the steak is very tender and the potatoes are fork-tender.
- Finish and serve: Gently stir the gravy around the potatoes and steak. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
Serving Tip
Serve the tender steak and baby potatoes generously covered with the onion gravy. A warm dinner roll or crusty bread is perfect for soaking up every bit of that delicious sauce.
