Freezer Rice

Cook once and enjoy perfectly portioned rice anytime! Freezer rice is a simple meal-prep staple that saves time on busy weeknights and makes it easy to add a quick side or base to countless meals.

Ingredients

  • Cooked rice (white, brown, jasmine, basmati, or your favorite variety)

Instructions

  1. Cook a large batch of rice using your preferred method.
  2. Spread the freshly cooked rice on baking sheets or in a large shallow container to cool completely.
  3. Divide the cooled rice into freezer-safe bags or airtight containers, using about 3–4 cups per portion.
  4. Press out as much air as possible, seal tightly, and flatten the bags for easier stacking and faster freezing.
  5. Freeze for up to 3 months.

To Reheat

  • From frozen: Microwave for 3–5 minutes, stirring halfway through, until heated through.
  • From thawed: Thaw overnight in the refrigerator, then reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop until hot.

Tips

  • Label each bag with the date and type of rice.
  • Freeze in meal-sized portions for convenience.
  • Add a splash of water before reheating if the rice seems dry.
  • Perfect for fried rice, burrito bowls, stir-fries, soups, casseroles, and quick side dishes.
