Old Fashioned Goulash
A hearty, comforting one-pot meal made with seasoned ground beef, tender macaroni, and a rich tomato sauce. This classic family favorite is easy to make and perfect for busy weeknights.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs (900 g) ground beef
- 1 large onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 cans (15 oz each) tomato sauce
- 2 cans (14.5 oz each) diced tomatoes, undrained
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 2 bay leaves
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add the diced onion and cook for 4–5 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
- Add the beef broth, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, bay leaves, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 15–20 minutes.
- Stir in the uncooked elbow macaroni. Cover and cook for 12–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is tender.
- Remove the bay leaves. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, if using, until melted.
- Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot.
