Old Fashioned Goulash

A hearty, comforting one-pot meal made with seasoned ground beef, tender macaroni, and a rich tomato sauce. This classic family favorite is easy to make and perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs (900 g) ground beef
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 cans (15 oz each) tomato sauce
  • 2 cans (14.5 oz each) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 bay leaves
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add the diced onion and cook for 4–5 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  3. Add the beef broth, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, bay leaves, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 15–20 minutes.
  5. Stir in the uncooked elbow macaroni. Cover and cook for 12–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is tender.
  6. Remove the bay leaves. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, if using, until melted.
  7. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot.
