Southern Chocolate Cobbler
Rich, fudgy, and irresistibly gooey—this classic Southern dessert bakes into a soft chocolate cake on top with a warm, silky chocolate sauce underneath. Best served hot with vanilla ice cream!
Ingredients
Batter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ cup milk
- ¼ cup melted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Topping
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
Hot Liquid
- 1½ cups boiling water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease an 8×8 baking dish.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth. Spread batter evenly in the baking dish.
- In another bowl, mix granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa powder. Sprinkle evenly over the batter.
- Carefully pour the boiling water over the top—do not stir.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes, until the top looks set and cake-like.
- Let cool for 5–10 minutes. A rich chocolate sauce will form underneath.
