Amish Hamburger Steak Bake
Ingredients
- 1½ lbs ground beef
- 1 packet onion soup mix
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 2 cups sliced potatoes
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 tbsp butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, onion soup mix, breadcrumbs, egg, and black pepper.
- Shape into hamburger patties.
- Melt butter in a skillet and brown patties for 2–3 minutes per side.
- Grease a baking dish and layer sliced potatoes and onions.
- Place browned hamburger patties on top.
- Mix cream of mushroom soup with milk, then pour over everything.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove foil, sprinkle cheddar cheese on top, and bake another 10–15 minutes until bubbly and golden.
Tips
- Add mushrooms for extra flavor.
- Serve with green beans or a fresh salad.
- You can swap cheddar for mozzarella or Monterey Jack cheese.
