Amish Hamburger Steak Bake

Ingredients

  • 1½ lbs ground beef
  • 1 packet onion soup mix
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups sliced potatoes
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix ground beef, onion soup mix, breadcrumbs, egg, and black pepper.
  3. Shape into hamburger patties.
  4. Melt butter in a skillet and brown patties for 2–3 minutes per side.
  5. Grease a baking dish and layer sliced potatoes and onions.
  6. Place browned hamburger patties on top.
  7. Mix cream of mushroom soup with milk, then pour over everything.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  9. Remove foil, sprinkle cheddar cheese on top, and bake another 10–15 minutes until bubbly and golden.

Tips

  • Add mushrooms for extra flavor.
  • Serve with green beans or a fresh salad.
  • You can swap cheddar for mozzarella or Monterey Jack cheese.
