  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder (optional)

Cheesy Texas Toast

  • 8 slices Texas toast or thick-cut white bread
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

1. Make the Sloppy Joe Filling

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and bell pepper. Cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.
  3. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
  5. Drain excess grease if necessary.
  6. Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
  7. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thick and flavorful.

2. Prepare the Cheesy Texas Toast

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Mix the softened butter with garlic powder.
  3. Spread the butter mixture evenly on both sides of the bread slices.
  4. Place the bread on a baking sheet.
  5. Sprinkle mozzarella (or cheddar) and Parmesan cheese on top.
  6. Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until the bread is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

3. Assemble

  1. Spoon a generous amount of Sloppy Joe filling over each slice of cheesy Texas toast.
  2. Serve immediately while hot and cheesy.
