Ingredients
Sloppy Joe Filling
- 1 lb (500 g) ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder (optional)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Cheesy Texas Toast
- 8 slices Texas toast or thick-cut white bread
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
1. Make the Sloppy Joe Filling
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and bell pepper. Cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.
- Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
- Drain excess grease if necessary.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
