Wonton Wrapper Lasagna Bites
Ingredients
- 1 package wonton wrappers (about 24-30 pieces) — use square wrappers
- 1 lb ground Italian turkey (or ground beef/sausage)
- 1 ½ jars (8 oz each) pasta sauce (e.g., marinara)
- 1 cup cottage cheese (or ricotta cheese)
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 tbsp dried basil
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- Salt & pepper to taste
- Cooking spray or oil (for muffin tin)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 °F (175 °C).
- Brown the meat: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground turkey (or your chosen meat) until no longer pink. Drain any excess fat. Add ½ of the pasta sauce to the meat and stir to combine. Set aside.
- Mix the cheese: In a bowl, combine the cottage (or ricotta) cheese, ½ cup shredded mozzarella, basil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until well mixed.
- Prepare the tin: Lightly spray or oil a standard muffin tin so the bites don’t stick.
- Layer the wonton cups:
- Place 2 wonton wrappers in the bottom of each muffin cup, staggering them so they overlap and form a little cup.
- Build each bite:
- Spoon a bit of the meat sauce into each wonton cup.
- Add about 1 tbsp of the cheese mixture.
- Add another spoonful of meat sauce, then top with shredded mozzarella.
- Repeat to fill the cup, ending with cheese on top.
- Bake: Place in the oven and bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the edges of the wonton wrappers are golden.
- Cool & serve: Let them cool for a few minutes, then use a butter knife to gently loosen each bite from the tin. Sprinkle a little extra dried basil on top if you like, and serve warm.
Tips
- For extra flavor, stir Italian seasoning or a pinch of oregano into the meat sauce.
- Ricotta cheese can be used instead of cottage for a creamier texture.
- Serve with extra marinara sauce for dipping!
