German Cabbage and Dumplings Recipe
Ingredients:
– 1 head white cabbage, thinly sliced
– 1 large onion, chopped
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1/2 cup butter
– 1 cup chicken broth
– 1/2 cup heavy cream
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
– 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
– 2 cups all-purpose flour
– 2 eggs
– 1/2 cup milk
– 1/4 cup melted butter
Instructions:
1. In a large pot, cook the cabbage in boiling water until tender. Drain and set aside.
2. In a large skillet, cook the onion and garlic in butter until the onion is translucent.
3. Add the cooked cabbage to the skillet and cook for 5 minutes.
4. Add the chicken broth, heavy cream, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Cook for 10 minutes.
5. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, eggs, milk, and melted butter.
6. Shape the dough into small balls (dumplings).
7. Add the dumplings to the sauce and cook for 10-15 minutes or until tender.
8. Serve hot.
Tips:
– Use fresh white cabbage for the best flavor.
– Add some bacon or ham for added flavor.
– Serve with mashed potatoes or bread.
