 INGREDIENTS

 Meat & Vegetables

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground sausage (pork, turkey, or chicken)
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/2–1 cup bell pepper, chopped (optional)
  • 1/2 cup mushrooms, chopped (optional)
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced

 Dairy & Eggs

  • 2 to 2 1/2 cups Monterey Jack cheese, shredded (divided)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 1/3 cups milk (or half-and-half for richer taste)

 Dry Ingredients & Seasoning

  • 3/4 cup baking mix (like Bisquick)
  • 3/4 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt to taste

 INSTRUCTIONS

 Step 1: Cook the Filling

In a large skillet over medium heat:

  • Cook the sausage until browned and fully cooked
  • Add onion, bell pepper, mushrooms, and garlic
  • Cook until vegetables are soft
  • Drain excess grease

This step is important to avoid a watery pie

 Step 2: Add Cheese

  • Stir in about 2 cups of shredded cheese into the sausage mixture
  • Mix well

 Step 3: Assemble the Pie

  • Grease a 9-inch pie dish
  • Spread the sausage mixture evenly in the dish

 Step 4: Prepare the Batter

In a bowl, whisk together:

  • Eggs
  • Milk
  • Baking mix
  • Sage and pepper

Mix until smooth

 Step 5: Pour & Bake

  • Pour the batter over the sausage mixture
  • Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20–25 minutes

 Step 6: Add Final Cheese

  • Sprinkle remaining cheese on top
  • Bake another 1–2 minutes until melted

 Step 7: Rest & Serve

  • Let the pie rest for 10 minutes before slicing
  • Serve warm

 TIPS

  • Use spicy sausage if you like a little heat
  • Add cheddar cheese for extra flavor
  • Serve with salad or roasted vegetables
  • Perfect for meal prep—it reheats very well
