Cheesy Potato Gratin
Ingredients:
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese or mozzarella
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F or 180°C.
- In a pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and cook until soft and fragrant.
- Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute.
- Gradually pour in the milk while stirring continuously until the sauce thickens.
- Add the heavy cream, half of the shredded cheese, salt, pepper, and paprika. Stir until the cheese melts and the sauce becomes smooth.
- In a baking dish, layer the sliced potatoes evenly. Pour some of the sauce over the potatoes. Repeat the layers until everything is used.
- Sprinkle the remaining cheese and Parmesan on top.
- Bake for 45 to 60 minutes until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden and bubbly.
Tips:
- Slice the potatoes thinly for even cooking
- Cover with foil for the first 30 minutes, then uncover to brown the top
- Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving
