Slow Cooker Cabbage with Bacon

Slow Cooker Cabbage with Bacon

Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage, cut into wedges
  • 6–8 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon paprika (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon and set it aside, leaving a little bacon grease in the pan.
  2. Add the chopped onion to the pan and sauté for about 3–4 minutes until soft. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Place the cabbage wedges into the slow cooker.
  4. Sprinkle the cooked bacon, onions, and garlic over the cabbage.
  5. Pour the chicken broth over everything and add the butter on top.
  6. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika if desired.
  7. Cover and cook on low for 4–5 hours or high for 2–3 hours, until the cabbage is tender.
  8. Gently stir before serving so the flavors mix well.

Serving Tip

This dish is perfect served with roasted potatoes, cornbread, or grilled sausage. The bacon adds a smoky flavor while the cabbage becomes soft and rich from the broth.
