Slow Cooker Cabbage with Bacon
Ingredients
- 1 large head of cabbage, cut into wedges
- 6–8 slices bacon, chopped
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon paprika (optional)
Instructions
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon and set it aside, leaving a little bacon grease in the pan.
- Add the chopped onion to the pan and sauté for about 3–4 minutes until soft. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- Place the cabbage wedges into the slow cooker.
- Sprinkle the cooked bacon, onions, and garlic over the cabbage.
- Pour the chicken broth over everything and add the butter on top.
- Season with salt, pepper, and paprika if desired.
- Cover and cook on low for 4–5 hours or high for 2–3 hours, until the cabbage is tender.
- Gently stir before serving so the flavors mix well.
Serving Tip
This dish is perfect served with roasted potatoes, cornbread, or grilled sausage. The bacon adds a smoky flavor while the cabbage becomes soft and rich from the broth.
