Ingredients (Serves 2–4)
Main Ingredients
- 1 to 1½ pounds beef (sirloin, chuck steak, flank steak, or ground beef)
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
Seasonings
- 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme or oregano
Optional Add-Ins
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce
- ½ cup sliced mushrooms
- 1 sliced bell pepper
- 1 small potato, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons beef broth (for extra juiciness)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Step 2: Prepare the Beef
- Slice beef into thin strips if using steak, or crumble if using ground beef.
- Place beef in a bowl.
- Add olive oil, salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and optional Worcestershire sauce.
- Mix well so the beef is evenly coated.
Step 3: Prepare the Foil Packet
- Tear off a large sheet of aluminum foil (about 12–16 inches long).
- Lightly grease the center with oil or butter.
- Spread sliced onions in the middle.
- Place the seasoned beef on top.
- Add garlic, mushrooms, peppers, potatoes, or broth if desired.
Step 4: Seal the Packet
- Fold the long sides of the foil together.
- Fold the short ends tightly to create a sealed packet.
- Leave a small air pocket inside for steam circulation.
Step 5: Bake
Place the packet on a baking tray. Bake for 35–50 minutes, depending on beef thickness:
- Thin steak strips: 30–35 minutes
- Thicker beef or potatoes: 40–50 minutes
Step 6: Rest & Open Carefully
Remove from oven. Let rest 5 minutes. Carefully open the foil — hot steam will escape.
