Cheese Buns Recipe
Ingredients:
For the dough:
- 4 cups all-purpose flour (about 500 g)
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon instant yeast
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil or melted butter
- 1 egg (optional, for softer buns)
For the filling:
- 200–250 g cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, edam, or a mix)
- Dried oregano or black pepper (optional)
For topping:
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon milk
- Sesame seeds or black seeds (optional)
Instructions:
Make the dough:
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add the yeast and mix well.
- Gradually add warm milk and start kneading.
- Add oil (or butter) and the egg.
- Knead for 8–10 minutes until the dough is soft and smooth.
- Cover and let rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Shape the buns:
- Punch down the dough.
- Divide into medium-sized balls.
- Flatten each ball slightly and place cheese in the center.
- Seal well and shape as desired.
Second rise:
- Place buns on a greased baking tray.
- Cover and let rest for 15–20 minutes.
Bake:
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Mix egg yolk with milk and brush the tops.
- Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
Tips:
- Use low-salt cheese for best flavor.
- Do not add too much flour; soft dough makes fluffy buns.
- Brush with a little butter after baking for extra softness
