 Ingredients

Hamburger Steaks:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 pounds ground beef (80/20 recommended)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 (1-ounce) packet dry onion soup mix
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Gravy:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2½ cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

For Serving (Optional):

  • Mashed potatoes
  • Fresh parsley, chopped

 Instructions

  1. Make the patties:
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, eggs, Panko breadcrumbs, dry onion soup mix, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Shape the steaks:
Form the mixture into 6–8 oval patties, about ¾-inch thick.
  3. Brown the patties:
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the patties and cook 4–5 minutes per side until nicely browned.
Remove patties from the skillet and set aside (they will finish cooking in the gravy).
  4. Make the gravy:
In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute until lightly golden.
Slowly whisk in beef broth, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
  5. Season the gravy:
Add Worcestershire sauce and bring the gravy to a gentle simmer until thickened.
  6. Simmer the steaks:
Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet.
Spoon gravy over the top, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15–20 minutes until fully cooked and tender.
  7. Serve:
Serve hot over mashed potatoes, spooning plenty of gravy on top.
Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

 Tips & Notes (American-Style)

  • Don’t overmix the beef—this keeps the steaks tender.
  • 80/20 ground beef gives the best flavor and juiciness.
  • If gravy gets too thick, add a splash of beef broth.
  • These hamburger steaks also pair well with rice or egg noodles.
