Instructions
- Make the patties:
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, eggs, Panko breadcrumbs, dry onion soup mix, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined. - Shape the steaks:
Form the mixture into 6–8 oval patties, about ¾-inch thick. - Brown the patties:
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the patties and cook 4–5 minutes per side until nicely browned.
Remove patties from the skillet and set aside (they will finish cooking in the gravy). - Make the gravy:
In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute until lightly golden.
Slowly whisk in beef broth, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. - Season the gravy:
Add Worcestershire sauce and bring the gravy to a gentle simmer until thickened. - Simmer the steaks:
Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet.
Spoon gravy over the top, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15–20 minutes until fully cooked and tender. - Serve:
Serve hot over mashed potatoes, spooning plenty of gravy on top.
Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
Tips & Notes (American-Style)
- Don’t overmix the beef—this keeps the steaks tender.
- 80/20 ground beef gives the best flavor and juiciness.
- If gravy gets too thick, add a splash of beef broth.
- These hamburger steaks also pair well with rice or egg noodles.
