Southern Fried Salmon Patties
Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside — a true Southern comfort classic!
Ingredients
- 1 (14–15 oz) can pink salmon, drained & flaked
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup cornmeal
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp Old Bay seasoning (optional but very Southern )
- 2–3 tbsp vegetable oil (for frying)
Instructions
- Prep salmon
Drain salmon well. Remove skin and bones if desired, then flake into a bowl. - Mix the patties
Add egg, onion, cornmeal, flour, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and Old Bay.
Mix until combined but not overly wet. - Form patties
Shape mixture into 5–6 medium patties. - Fry
Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Fry patties for 3–4 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy. - Drain & serve
Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot.
Serving Ideas (Southern-Style)
- With grits or mac & cheese
- With collard greens or fried cabbage
- Topped with hot sauce or remoulade sauce
Tips
- If mixture feels too loose, add a little more cornmeal.
- For extra flavor, add a splash of lemon juice or a pinch of cayenne.
- Leftovers keep well and make amazing sandwiches!
