- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp maple extract (optional, for extra flavor)
Instructions
For the Cookies:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Mix in the maple syrup, egg, and vanilla extract until fully combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined.
- Scoop tablespoon-sized portions onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are just starting to turn golden.
- Let cookies cool on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
For the Maple Icing:
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and maple syrup together.
- Remove from heat and whisk in the powdered sugar until smooth.
- If using, stir in the maple extract.
- Let the icing cool slightly until it thickens just enough to drizzle or spread.
- Drizzle or spread the icing over cooled cookies. Let set before storing.
Tips
- For a deeper maple flavor, use dark maple syrup (Grade B) and the optional maple extract.
- Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
- The icing sets beautifully — great for gifting!
