FRENCH ONION GNOCCHI BAKE
INGREDIENTS
- 1 lb (450 g) potato gnocchi
- 3 large onions, thinly sliced
- 3 tbsp butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 1 tsp thyme (fresh or dried)
- 2 cups beef or vegetable broth
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère or mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
1. PREHEAT THE OVEN
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. COOK THE GNOCCHI
Cook the gnocchi according to package instructions.
Drain well and set aside.
3. CARAMELIZE THE ONIONS
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
Add the sliced onions and cook slowly for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until deeply caramelized.
4. ADD FLAVORINGS
Add the garlic, thyme, and balsamic vinegar.
Cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
5. SIMMER
Pour in the broth and simmer for 5 minutes to reduce slightly.
6. COMBINE
Add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet and stir until fully coated with the onion mixture.
7. ASSEMBLE
Transfer the mixture to a baking dish.
Top evenly with shredded Gruyère (or mozzarella) and Parmesan cheese.
8. BAKE
Bake for 15–20 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
9. OPTIONAL BROIL
Broil for 1–2 minutes to lightly brown the top, if desired.
10. SERVE
Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.
