Cheesy Mozzarella Onion Rings
Crispy golden onion rings stuffed with gooey mozzarella – the ultimate snack-time indulgence!
Ingredients
- 2 large onions, cut into thick rings
- 200 g mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks or slices
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1½ cups breadcrumbs (panko works best)
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp paprika
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- Oil, for deep frying
Instructions
- Prepare the onions:
Separate the onion rings and match a larger ring with a smaller one to create a gap for the cheese. - Stuff with cheese:
Place mozzarella sticks between the two rings, pressing gently so the cheese fits snugly. - Set up breading station:
- Bowl 1: flour
- Bowl 2: eggs whisked with milk
- Bowl 3: breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper
- Bread the rings:
Dip each stuffed ring into flour → egg mixture → breadcrumbs.
For extra crispiness, repeat the egg and breadcrumb step. - Freeze (important!):
Place the rings on a tray and freeze for 30–45 minutes to prevent cheese from leaking while frying. - Fry:
Heat oil to 175°C / 350°F. Fry rings in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy. - Drain:
Remove and place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
Serving Ideas
- Serve hot with marinara sauce, ranch, or spicy mayo
- Perfect as a party snack, appetizer, or movie-night treat
Tip: If you prefer baking, bake at 200°C / 400°F for 15–18 minutes, flipping halfway (spray lightly with oil).
