Cheesy Mozzarella Onion Rings

Cheesy Mozzarella Onion Rings

Crispy golden onion rings stuffed with gooey mozzarella – the ultimate snack-time indulgence!

 Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, cut into thick rings
  • 200 g mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks or slices
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1½ cups breadcrumbs (panko works best)
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Oil, for deep frying

 Instructions

  1. Prepare the onions:
Separate the onion rings and match a larger ring with a smaller one to create a gap for the cheese.
  2. Stuff with cheese:
Place mozzarella sticks between the two rings, pressing gently so the cheese fits snugly.
  3. Set up breading station:
    • Bowl 1: flour
    • Bowl 2: eggs whisked with milk
    • Bowl 3: breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper
  4. Bread the rings:
Dip each stuffed ring into flour → egg mixture → breadcrumbs.
For extra crispiness, repeat the egg and breadcrumb step.
  5. Freeze (important!):
Place the rings on a tray and freeze for 30–45 minutes to prevent cheese from leaking while frying.
  6. Fry:
Heat oil to 175°C / 350°F. Fry rings in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Drain:
Remove and place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.

 Serving Ideas

  • Serve hot with marinara sauce, ranch, or spicy mayo
  • Perfect as a party snack, appetizer, or movie-night treat

Tip: If you prefer baking, bake at 200°C / 400°F for 15–18 minutes, flipping halfway (spray lightly with oil).
