Tender Chicken Wrapped in Tortillas with a Rich, Creamy Cheese Sauce
Ingredients
For the wraps:
- 2 cups cooked chicken, diced or shredded
- 4 large flour tortillas
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese
- 1 tablespoon butter or olive oil
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon paprika (optional)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
For the creamy cheese sauce:
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1½ cups milk (warm)
- ½ cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons cream cheese (optional, for extra creaminess)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the chicken filling
- In a pan over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon butter or olive oil.
- Add the cooked chicken, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Stir and cook for 3–4 minutes until heated through.
- Remove from heat and set aside.
- Make the creamy cheese sauce
- In a saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons butter over medium heat.
- Add the flour and whisk continuously for 1 minute.
- Slowly pour in the warm milk, whisking to avoid lumps.
- Cook until the sauce thickens (about 3–5 minutes).
- Add shredded cheese and cream cheese, stir until smooth.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Assemble the wraps
- Lay tortillas flat.
- Spoon chicken filling down the center of each tortilla.
- Sprinkle with shredded cheese.
- Roll tightly into wraps.
- Serve
- Drizzle generously with the creamy cheese sauce.
- Optional: lightly toast the wraps in a pan until golden.
