Airfryer Blooming Onion
Ingredients:
- 1 large onion (white or yellow works best)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- Cooking spray or 2-3 tbsp vegetable oil
Optional: dipping sauce like ranch or garlic sauce
Instructions:
- Prepare the onion:
- Cut off the top and bottom of the onion and remove the outer skin.
- Place the onion upside down (flat side down) and make vertical cuts around it to create “petals” (about 12 cuts).
- Do not cut all the way through—leave about 1 cm at the base so the petals stay connected.
- Prepare the coating:
- In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- In another bowl, whisk the egg with milk.
- Coat the onion:
- Dip the onion in the egg mixture first, then coat it in the flour mixture, making sure the flour gets between each petal.
- Repeat if you want a thicker coating.
- Cook in the airfryer:
- Preheat the airfryer to 350°F (180°C) for 3 minutes.
- Place the onion in the basket, spray lightly with oil.
- Cook for 15-20 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Optionally, flip carefully after 10 minutes for even browning.
- Serve:
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
