Chinese Pepper Steak with Onions
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450 g) flank steak or any tender beef, thinly sliced against the grain
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional, for extra flavor)
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ cup water or beef broth
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the sliced beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and black pepper. Mix well and let marinate for 15 minutes.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the beef and stir-fry quickly until browned. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the garlic and sauté for a few seconds until fragrant. Add the onion and bell pepper, stirring until slightly tender but still crisp.
- Return the beef to the skillet, add the water or beef broth, and cook for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef.
- Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.
